How to fix a hole in the wall: drywall, bricks and concrete

The most common problem inside and outside the room is the appearance of holes and cracks, which can be conditionally divided into several types. It is about how to putty a hole in the wall that we will talk about. Whatever the size of the hole, the preparatory process is always the same. If there is wallpaper glued on the surface, it is necessary to carefully cut them out near the damaged place. All edges from plaster, whitewash or paint – clean up. In short, get rid of anything that can fall off.

How to fix small size hole

Small holes can be caused by a driven nail, dowel, or other mechanical damage. It looks terrible and can be detrimental to the overall construction of the wall, so it’s important to seal the gaps in a timely manner. To do this, you will need a metal trowel, compound, screw, sandpaper and vacuum cleaner.
The sequence of work to be done is as follows:

  • Insert a screw of the right size into the hole and move it in all directions. You need to achieve a widening of the channels of the hole.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust that has been created.
  • Apply the mortar with a trowel, press it into the hole and level the surface.
  • After it has dried completely, sand it down with sandpaper. Depending on what finishing material you have on the wall, finish the surface. If it might look rough, then apply appliqué or something like that.

Use alabaster or any kind of gypsum as a mortar. You can also apply cement and sand (in a 1:3 ratio).

Large hole in the wall – ways to fix

Such holes arise mainly after the removal of socket boxes and other mechanical effects. Caulk them immediately, as the size of the gap depends on the structure of the floor. They are caulked with any plaster mortar. From the tools you will need all of the above, plus a piece of stone. Vacuum clean the hole and moisten it with water to soak it.

If the hole reaches 5 cm, then just masticate it with mortar, and after drying, masticate again, because the mixture gives cracks. Since it is more difficult to fill a larger hole in the wall, you will have to first spread a thin layer of mortar, then plant a piece of stone or brick inside it and carefully masticate with gypsum. On top of the patched hole, finish putty is applied and the surface is smoothed. Next, it is sanded down.

How to repair through-hole

A through hole can appear from anywhere, for example, under the weight of household appliances or all kinds of cabinets. Breaking off, they violate the integrity of the construction of the wall. Naturally, it is necessary to seal such a hole from both sides, but if you do not have the opportunity to do this, then you can cope with the one-sided method.

The tools you need include a trowel, dowels with screws, an electric drill, bricks and, respectively, the mortar itself. Using an electric drill, you need to drill and install the four strongest dowels with screws in the hole.
Thus, there will be a support for the brick, so that it will not fall out on the other side. Stone or brick must be chosen of appropriate size, so that it is tight enough to close the hole.
All this is strengthened only with cement mortar, made as we described above. Carefully make sure that there are no gaps, fill all the empty spaces with the mixture. Next, make the finishing work, sand and cover with the necessary material.

A hole in the drywall

Nowadays, drywall sheets are used everywhere to insulate a room, conduct soundproofing or simply to level the walls. Unfortunately, this material does not withstand mechanical damage and most often cracks form on it. But how to remove a hole in the wall of drywall is advised by experts.

To begin with, cross out the place of repair with a pencil in the form of a regular rectangle. A ruler-corner will help you in this. With a box cutter or a hacksaw cut all the damaged material accurately along these lines. Then you need to cut a board in the shape of a rectangle, but so that it was slightly narrower, but longer than the specified parameters. As a handle, install a large screw, which should be removed at the end of the work.

A hole in the drywall

Insert the board into the sawed hole and press it to the back of the drywall, fix it with self-tapping screws. From a piece of drywall cut a rectangle, strictly corresponding to the hole. Insert it into the hole and fix it with self-tapping screws, which should be screwed in as deeply as possible. Then we putty the surface, apply a reinforcing mesh and carefully rub it into the putty. After drying, we sand and apply another layer of putty, but the finishing coat.

Hole in the seams

As a rule, during repairs, huge holes in the seams are discovered. They can appear at the time of removal of the plaster layer. By the way, remember the golden rule: everything that can be easily knocked down – remove. Because sooner or later, weak pieces of the wall will make themselves felt. These holes can not be putty. So they are caulked in two ways:

  • The empty cavity is filled with fragments of brick and permanently cemented.
  • In such a gap is poured mounting foam, which is able to very strongly bond the cement slab.

How to fix cracks in the wall

Holes in the wall can occur if you do not caulk cracks for a long time, when the appearance of which, the construction of the wall weakens. To prevent this, it is necessary to caulk the cracks at the first appearance. To do this, the crack should be thoroughly cleaned on all sides at an angle of forty-five degrees. Profusely primed and caulked.

Solutions for this are used in different ways. First, it is the same mixture, which was kneaded for finishing the wall, and secondly, it is a variety of plasters and adhesive bases, which include cement. But the most suitable material is considered a sealant. It benefits from the fact that when it dries, it acquires a rubber consistency, so it has the ability to expand and contract, making it impossible for new cracks to appear on the wall.

Sealant is laid with a construction gun. Excess can be removed with a rubber or metal spatula. The only contraindication is silicone-based sealants, as they contain fatty substances that do not contact with paint and putty.

Other Ways

How to fill a hole in the wall if the gap is narrow but deep? For this purpose, assembly foam is used. A guide tube is inserted into the hole and run the foam. When it finally dries, you need to apply a layer of putty. When the gap is narrow, you can use assembly foam or sealant.

When the gap is narrow, you can use assembly foam or sealant.

A simpler, you might say grandmother’s method involves the use of ordinary newspaper and a band-aid. The newspaper is carefully twisted to the right size and hammered into the gap, and the band-aid is glued on top. Then the whole thing is evened out with finishing putty.
For greater strength, you can glue another piece of adhesive tape over the putty and putty again.

If the gap is very deep, stuff it up to half with newspaper, and on top of any gypsum mortar. Now there are also special repair compositions on the basis of cement. They harden quite quickly and have increased strength.

The repair mixture is used both for holes and for chips on the surface of the wall. The mixture is applied in several stages. This is an important condition, since the strength of the setting depends on it. Be sure to let each new layer dry. When finished, remove the excess and level the surface with a moistened trowel.
