Clubhouse is a new social network that’s been available for a while, but it’s gotten a lot of attention in recent weeks, which has even prompted Twitter and Facebook to work on competitors for the app. A new report indicates that Clubhouse, which is still exclusive to iOS, has already been downloaded 8 million times on the App Store.
According to research firm App Annie (via TechCrunch), the Clubhouse app reached 8.1 million downloads worldwide on the iOS App Store on Feb. 16, 2021. By comparison, the app had registered 3.5 million downloads by Feb. 1, 2021. research shows the app has become extremely popular in the U.K., Germany, Japan, Brazil and Turkey.
High numbers can be linked to several influencers and celebrities interacting with other users on a social network. For example, Tesla founder Elon Musk and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg have already created a Clubhouse account and communicated with other users there. Other celebrities and famous people have also used the new app.
If you’ve never heard of Clubhouse, it’s a social network based entirely on audio chats. Users can create rooms in which multiple people talk in real time and join in, which in a way can be compared to a live podcast. There are no other ways to interact, no conversations are recorded, which means you can’t listen to an already completed chat.
These numbers become even more impressive when you consider that Clubhouse is an iPhone-only app and requires an invitation – which may also be one of the reasons why the app has become so popular, since people are interested. Meanwhile, Twitter is expanding the audio capabilities of Spaces to more users, and Facebook is reportedly working on a Clubhouse competitor.
If you want to try Clubhouse, you can download the app for free in the App Store and reserve your username until you receive an invitation from a friend.
